Best and Tasty Chicken and Mushroom Dim Sum Siu Mai

  • 1 cup minced chicken
  • 2 dried shiitake mushrooms
  • 3 heads water chestnut
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 shallots - chopped
  • 1 clove garlic - chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper powder
  • 1/2 tbsp soy sauce or more
  • 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
  • Wonton wrapper/skin
Cooking Directions:
  1. Soak the shiitake mushrooms until soft, wash and finely cut them. Peel the water chestnut and cut into small dices.
  2. Put all the ingredients together and mix them well, you can add some more soy sauce if you need to.
  3. On a dry cutting board or your palm, place one sheet of wonton skin and spoon the mixed chicken, then start working around the edge of the wonton skin by pressing it up. Make a hole with your index finger and thumb, put the siu mai in the hole and press it to make it tighter and to get the size you want it to.
  4. Place and steam the siu mai for 15 minutes in a bamboo steamer or just use a plate or even use a steamer in a rice cooker.
  5. Serve with soy sauce or chili sauce.
