Basic Bread (How To Make Bread)
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all purpose flour - and some for dusting
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 3/4 tbsp yeast (active dry yeast)
- 3/8 cup lukewarm water + 2 tbsp to dissolve yeast
- 2 tbsp butter - room temperature
- 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Dissolve the yeast in two tbsp lukewarm water and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes or until you see creamy foam.
- In a big bowl, mix all the milk, butter, sugar and salt then make whisk a little to dissolve the sugar. Then add the flour and the yeast. Knead the dough until smooth on lightly floured surface.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a wet cloth or plastic wrapper, then allow the dough to rise until it doubles in size. It will take about an hour.
- Punch the dough and divide in two if you want to make a small bread like the one on the picture above. If you want to make a sandwich, one recipe will make one medium sandwich by using a medium baking loaf.
- Roll the dough in a lightly floured surface and turn into whatever size you want, let it sit to rise for the second time, about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and bake the bread until golden.
- You can make any kind of bread from this basic bread recipe.
