Bitter melon and Beef with Black Bean

Bitter melon and Beef with Black Bean
My own original recipe.
Prep Time: 20 minutes / Cook Time: 15 minutes
Bitter melon and Beef with Black Bean

  • 1 bitter melon medium size
  • 9 oz tender beef
  • 1 clove garlic - minced
  • 1/2 tbsp salt
  • 1/2 tbsp olive oil or cooking oil
  • 1/4 cup water or more
  • 1 tbsp black bean - chopped (you can use black bean paste)
For Marinate:
  • 1/2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar(optional)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
Cooking Directions:
  1. Wash the beef, cut them thinly and add all the marinate seasoning.  Mix them well and let it sit while you do the other things below.
  2. Cut the bitter melon in half and use a spoon to clean the middle, then cut the melon in the shape as you desire then add 1/2 tbsp of salt and mix them all together.  Let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes (note: do not wash the bitter melon before you mix with salt, this trick can help take out the bitterness) then rinse it in running water a few times.
  3. Heat the olive oil in a frying pan, add the beef and fry it until it is cooked, then set aside.
  4. Using the same pan, add garlic until you smell the garlic aroma, then add bitter melon.  Stir it then add water and black bean.
  5. Cover it for 3 to 4 minutes, add the beef, stir, and then serve into a serving plate.
Note: You can make the stir fry vegetable thicker by mixing 1 tbsp water and 1/2 tbsp cornstarch, add it to the frying pan in the last minute before you transfer to a serving plate.
